I doubt they'll change the game from peer-to-peer to peer-to-server. Their Free2Play business model doesn't work on a peer-to-server game. I doubt they'll change their business model for this because retail games require a lot more of a budget and work to make successful than a game where you can get a majority of your players for free or extremely cheap (vs. largescale online marketing, commercials, etc...) and pull a monthly fee + other goodies out of a 5-10% percentage of them (I forget what one of the admins said, but they painted it as low. it isn't, not that they were lying but 5-10% is actually quite good*). G1 has too low of a budget (and pre-existing playerbase) to go retail
This may have changed but as far as I know, DE specializes in low-end games for the average household. The graphics might be better than we have now but most likely not by much. It's still good but (IMO) the current graphics are OK enough that the change better be noticeable. (And I hope it doesn't take the gay approach of cartoonish gfx)
I'm worried most about the new engine. I hope it won't be like CS / CS:S, where the (mostly just the competitive part of) community is heavily divided. Just see
CSPromod, and start searching Google for more the lkgjdfklgjs-illions of flamewars on dkjleorei-ands of forums. I'm sure G1 will mandate WR2 for our region, so I'm not saying the community will be divided between games
if this happens, just that a ton of people will quit and it'll take a long time for the community to adapt. (We already know the community doesn't like change, anyway.)
Then again it's not a whole new engine like the Source engine was. I'm naturally unoptimistic about WR/G1/DE (thank you past experiences), so meh. Take this post as the words of a grumpy old war-torn man trapped in an athletic men's underwear model's body.
YAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER ANTICHEAT MEASURES. I hope they don't fuck it up.
* if anyone could find that for me it'd be nice, but I'm 99% sure it was some variation of 10% /bannedfromwrforums
